Treatment of Breast Cancer in Growing Communities

Although medicine has evolved to better understand new chemotherapy drug regimens in managing patients with Breast Cancer as well as radiation therapy, we are in need of a better approach in the treatment of Breast Cancer. The difficulty patients have experienced in the past has been an uncoordinated approach for their cancer treatment. This has caused frustration not only for the patients and their families, but also for their physicians. Several articles have been published that suggest a multidisciplinary focus that entails prevention, diagnosis and treatment has led to significant strides in the reduction of breast cancer mortality.

Additionally, breast cancer management has become increasingly complex, requiring comprehensive assessment and review of multiple issues that include the role of genetic testing, imaging and breast magnetic resonance imaging, surgical and reconstructive options, and a variety of new adjuvant therapies. It has become more evident that a multidisciplinary team approach that involves a spectrum of breast experts is necessary to provide optimal care to patients. At El Portal Comprehensive Cancer Center we are striving to bring this approach to the community. Our physicians and staff are dedicated to delivering the highest quality of service while providing compassionate care to our patients and their families.

Maximizes Effectiveness – With IGRT, higher doses of radiation can be focused and delivered directly to tumors and cancer cells.
Minimizes Risks – With the accuracy of the Radiation Treatment field placement, with daily CT guidance, exposure of the tissue can be reduced. Therefore, less side effects from Radiation Treatment.

Maximizes Visualization – El Portal Medical Arts Building houses the newest PET/CT in the North Valley. We are now capable of integrating the PET/CT images into our treatment planning for 3D conformal Radiation Treatment.

Visualization of the tumor allows us to deliver more accurate and effective treatment. This state-of-the-art technology, IGRT, allows us to target cancer cells more effectively so that we can deliver higher doses to the tumor and still spare radiation to normal tissue. Clinical studies have indicated that higher doses of radiation significantly improve local tumor control. Our mission is to provide the highest quality compassionate care with state-of-the-art equipment. We recognize that cancer treatment can be daunting and overwhelming. Our experienced professional staff is trained and committed to helping patients and their families through this journey with support and compassion.
